Sets your 401(k) and HSA limits. At 65 or older, a larger deduction applies. Ages 60 to 63 get a larger 401(k) catch-up under SECURE 2.0, a window that closes at 64.
Household income, excluding RSU vests ($) ~ est
Salary, bonus, and any other income of your own, but not your vests. The tool adds vest income from the grants you entered and stacks it on top, so counting it here as well would tax it twice and overstate your gap. Used to estimate your federal bracket, on the standard deduction unless you choose Itemized and your total is larger. Empty is fine. The tool uses the manually selected rate below. Dividends, interest and gains count as salary in this estimate.

RSU withholding
RSU withholding rate
Vesting RSUs are supplemental wages, withheld at a flat federal rate regardless of your bracket. Once your supplemental pay from your employer passes in a calendar year, federal withholding on the part above it is (IRS Publication 15). Those are the rates this estimate uses. Ask payroll whether a future vest will be withheld at a higher rate.
Bonus and other supplemental pay this year ($)
From your employer, this calendar year
Bonuses and other pay taxed as supplemental wages this calendar year, not counting your vests. It is already part of your household income above, so it is not taxed again here. It is used only to place the line, above which federal withholding is . Empty is fine.
Default withholding: regardless of your bracket, on supplemental pay above in a year. In the 32% bracket, 10% of every vest goes under-withheld. Once shares vest, that event's withholding is locked, so the shortfall on vests already paid this year is already set; only vests still ahead of you can be affected at all.
Each one makes your bracket and NIIT estimates more accurate.
Each field is optional. Left blank, the tool uses the 2026 standard deduction and no contribution adjustments.

ESPP

Do you buy shares through an ESPP?
Company stock bought at a discount through payroll. Its tax works differently from your RSUs.

Your ESPP’s terms

% off the purchase price
Lookback A lookback prices your shares off the lower of the offering-start price and the purchase-day price.
Months you buy
The tax is due when you sell, not when you buy. Each ESPP lot has two holding periods that matter. Holding more than a year past the purchase date decides whether the gain above the purchase-date price is short or long term. Selling more than two years after the offering start is one of the tests for a qualifying disposition, which changes how much of the proceeds counts as ordinary income rather than the rate on the rest. Which path costs less depends on the two prices in your offering period, not only on the dates.
Completed ESPP purchases

Fill in your ESPP’s terms above first: each purchase is priced by them.

Total company equity. Vested and unvested shares, both at the price in Your plan. It is what you hold plus what you are scheduled to receive, so it matches the share counts on your own statement. Concentration counts only the shares you hold now, which is why the two figures do not divide into each other.

Your brief: the tax picture, ESPP timing, and what your figures show, built only from what you entered.
Free · No account required · Your numbers stay in your browser
Educational tool only · Not investment advice · Not tax advice. All figures are directional estimates based on your inputs and the 2026 standard deduction as a conservative baseline. RSU income is taxed as ordinary income at vest. ESPP tax treatment depends on holding period. The 3.8% tax on investment income depends on your full income for the year, including amounts not entered here. A state rate is shown only where that state’s own published schedule has been verified, and it is derived from the income and filing status you enter; the source and tax year are named beside the rate. For any state not yet verified, no rate is shown and the field uses the rate you enter. State figures reflect state income tax only and do not include city, local, or special district taxes, so this is not a complete tax picture. No advisory relationship is established by use of this tool.
How this is computed
  • Federal figures use the 2026 brackets, standard deductions, and limits from IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 and Notice 2025-67; each state's figures from its own published schedules. They are checked against the source each year. Last checked October 2026.
  • A state rate is shown only where that state’s own published schedule has been verified, with the source and tax year named beside the rate. For any other state, no rate is shown and you enter your own.
  • Every figure is a directional estimate based on what you entered. It highlights what matters; it is not tax advice or a precise tax return.
  • Tax figures are taken from the official publications named on each page.
